What Normal Reviews shares
This is a private beta for a small group of testers. Here’s exactly what happens with your data.
Stays on your phone, never uploaded
- Your Google Timeline file and everything in it
- Where you stopped, when, and for how long
- Stops that aren’t restaurants, and visits you haven’t rated
- Your home and work
- Android app: if you turn on automatic visit detection, your phone checks each 20+ minute stop against the restaurant map. Restaurant visits become cards on your phone; every other stop and every raw location is forgotten right away.
To find which stops were restaurants, the app downloads a free map of restaurants for each area you’ve been to, in squares about 25 km wide, and does the matching on your phone. The website can tell which squares were downloaded (roughly which metro areas), but never your stops, times or the places you went.
Shared when you rate a restaurant
- Which restaurant, and its location
- The day of your visit (never the time)
- Your rating, and any comment, problem reasons or photo you add
Photos are shrunk on your phone first, which also removes the hidden location data cameras store in them.
Who sees it
- Friends (people who added your friend code, or whose code you added) see your name next to your ratings.
- Everyone else in the beta sees your ratings as “A diner,” with only a rating count and whether you tend to rate high or low.
- Your email is used only to sign in. Other testers never see it.
Your controls
- Undo a rating to remove it from everyone’s view.
- Friends tab → Delete my shared data removes all your ratings, comments, photos and friendships from the shared database.
- Prefer to keep it private? Tap “Not now” at sign-in and the app works just for you.
Where it’s stored: a Supabase database run by the app’s creator. Questions or deletion requests: ask the person who invited you.
